'A videophone on every key decision maker’s desk by 2010'
The telecommunications world has seen explosive growth in areas such as mobile phones and the internet; but in the background, a new revolution is happening: VoIP (Voice over IP). The days of plain old telephone systems are coming to an end, to be replaced by telephone calls which will be made over the internet. Many telecoms operators are already using the technology in the centre of their networks and are beginning to migrate it outwards, eventually reaching the consumer in the home.
VoIP offers many advanced telephony services, such as “presence” and lower call costs (“presence” is a feature of VoIP that will let you know if someone is available to take your call before you call them and lower calling costs are achieved through converging communications channels). However, we believe that the biggest benefit of all will be the universal adoption of video telephony in the business and home. Where people will naturally expect to be able to see the person they are calling with “true” visual communications.
