Anglia Polytechnic University took delivery of 2 AP100 video phones in May 2005. APU has a long established videoconferencing network linking its main campuses in Cambridge & Chelmsford. The University also has around 26 partner colleges providing it's degrees bounded by Stamford in the North, Thurrock in the South, Huntingdon in the West and Lowestoft in the east. All of these partners have IP videoconferencing installed running over the EastNet section of the SuperJanet network.
The AP 100's have proved ideal for meetings of 3 or 4 participants at each end and have connected seamlessly with the Tandberg and Polycom codecs which form the bulk of the APU network. Detailed meetings to plan for the new 2006 curriculum were rapidly facilitated by these video phones at time when the main rooms were pre booked for other purposes. They have proved ideal for departmental cross campus meetings and one of the Deans of Faculty in Cambridge liaises regularly with one of the partner colleges in Norwich from the comfort of his own office.
Andrew Wood, Deputy Director of Communications and IT Services, said " I have been so pleased with the performance of these video phones that I have included a figure to purchase more of them in our current bid for capital funding to the Higher Education Funding Council."
